I love to collect old books - not just any book that happens to be particularly old, but books related to my love of darkness, gothic literature and fairy tales. One of my favorite books I own is this 1885 edition of "Lenore." I was delighted to pick up this for a mere $22 at a used bookstore a few years ago. After my kids, pets, myself, and a box of photos and important papers, it might be the next thing I grab on the way out of the house if a fire broke out.
I thought I'd scan the book in entirety so you could enjoy it as well.
I wonder why it's copyrighted to "Charles E. Wentworth" instead of Edgar Allan Poe or the publishers? Edgar Allan Poe had been dead for 36 years when this was published.
Unfortunately the biographical information on this introduction page is incorrect. Poe was born in Boston in 1809.
The illustrations were by Hy. Sandham, R.C.A.
This is a rather unusual post for Dark Side of the Net, which is supposed to provide links to dark material, not scans of books. However, if you enjoyed this post and would like to see more of my antique book collection, drop a comment or click Like to let me know!

Very neat indeed. Thanks for posting this. I'm a high school English teacher introducing my students to Gothic Literature. I'm going to have them visit and look at these scans. Thanks for posting!
