This weekend I attended Emerald City Comicon here in Seattle, dragged (but willingly) by my comic-loving stepsister. Comics have never really been my thing, and I've been aware for many years that the Dark Comics section of Dark Side of the Net was sorely underrepresented and poorly researched, practically useless!
I saw so many cool things this weekend, it's inspired me to learn more about dark comics (and comics in general) and do a much better job on the Comics section of Darklinks in the future. Here are some of the things I enjoyed checking this weekend:
Muertoons
Muertoons are by Eric Gonzales and Erich Haeger.
They're best known for their book, Rosita y Conchita, a story of two twins (one dead, one alive) who try to reunite with each other on El Dia de Los Muertos. The book is written in both Spanish and English.
The blog currently features some adorable characters, including this one, Amethyst.

Nigel Sade
"The Art of Nigel Sade." His booth definitely caught my eye - beautifully dark paintings here.

Overcast with a Chance of Doom/Writhe and Shine
I stopped by Robert Tritthardt's booth to see what was new with his renowned goth webcomic, Writhe and Shine. He's currently publishing Overcast with a Chance of Doom, a weekly webcomic set in Seattle. He was letting people have their picture taken with his world-traveling Writhe and Shine dolls, too.
Heart-Shaped Skull
The art and comics of Aaron Alexovich. He's most known for Serenity Rose, a witch who can shapeshift and conjure monsters.

Neko Press
They publish Deepest Dark, Lily, Dark Ones, and other dark titles.
El Torres
This Spanish comic artist creates The Veil, The Suicide Forest, Nancy in Hell, and Eclipse of the Undead. The Suicide Forest is being adapted into a film.
Steam Crow
I probably walked by this interesting booth eight or nine times, stopping each time to see even more of their really cool monster artwork. Dawna and Daniel live in Phoenix, Arizona. Be sure to check out the Halloween section of their prints store!
Drew Rausch
Drew Rausch illustrates dark comics including Eldritch and Sullengrey. I really like his style!
