New Goth and Dark Links for November 1, 2012

DARK ART:

Boogervampire

I've been holding off on linking to this site for a long time, because the name is so very silly and gross. But I really enjoy Mary J. Hoffman's humorous horror art and films, and I think you will too.

Felipe Solano

The DeviantArt gallery of an artist/photographer from Spain. He calls this collection "Imagenes-Imperfectas." The photographs here are oddly unsettling - look at them more closely to find out why. My favorite here is "Honey, It's a Girl!"

Polawat

This DeviantArt gallery is full of twisted illustrations: Twisted wallpaper, snapping cats, dark matter, twisted tales, and twisted monsters.

Saffron Reichenbacker

A visual artist who works in photography, prints; sculpture, and collage. I think the prints section is my favorite here, with Art Deco morbid looking ladies in reds, whites, blacks and greens.

Seiko Kato

This artist lives in Brighton, England. They're inspired by Victorian medical books, old Victorian drawings and Victorian paraphernalia.

At this site you can view 3d Montages such as the one above; drawings; 3d collages; and creations made from plastic and fabric.

DARK LITERATURE:

My Love Haunted Heart

This is a site dedicated to 1960s and 1970s era gothic romances. Half the fun here is staring at the lurid covers with their billowy fashions and creepy houses. But also, the reviews are intriguingly well written. Glad to know I'm not the only one with a soft spot for silly Victoria Holt gothic novels.

DARK SHOPS:

Iklesiks Boutique

This UK-based Etsy shop sells adorably wicked little crocheted amigurumi dolls and monsters. My favorite is this evil kitty cat.

Necrosarium

This shop sells beautiful Gothic Lolita and Visual Kei jewelry and accessories.
There are lots of skull and rose-themed items, plus unusual pieces such as this Queen of Crows Crown. I also don't run into stores that sell eye patches very often. Cool!

DARK TELEVISION:

The Following

Kevin Bacon plays a former FBI agent who is tasked with hunting down an escaped serial killer. This is more drama than horror, but since it's about a serial killer, I thought I'd mention it here. Plus, it has really cool teaser art.

GOTH CLUBS:

Katacombes

A club/venue in downtown Montreal, Quebec. It books bands who play punk, metal, black doom, psychobilly, rockabilly, electro-industrial, EBM, gothic, batcave and other alternative styles. I wouldn't go here hoping to attend a goth night, but if you're in the area looking for a show to go to, check out their upcoming gig listings.

At no cost! Even if you don't have something to promote, this is a fascinating site for people interested in horror. Updated daily, it helps you keep up with new happenings, new shows, movies, and publications in the genre. Currently blogging about the Shockfest Film Festival, the film The Bay arriving in theaters; and mentioning a 22 minute short called Bloody Aliens.

  1. Thanks for a most interesting collection of links.
Just picking out one... At My Love-Haunted Heart, I found something about Daphne du Maurier which I'll probably post at The Dark Side of the Net Social Network.
And I never knew Victoria Holt is also Jean Plaidy and Philippa Carr which I see by the dozen in the local thrift store!
