Dark Side of the Net
New Goth Links in Late June 2009
- Chants of Maledicta - A goth/electro band from Brazil.
- Cobweb Clothing - A shop specializing in fishnet and mesh clothing and stockings. Here's a great
place to stock up on camisoles, long sleeve tops, and stockings. They also supply accessories including fishnet gloves, lace gloves, and mesh shrugs.
- Crites Gallery - A dark artist's three galleries of interesting ink-on-paper drawings.
- Grim Graphics and Gothic Goods - Stella Strout's CafePress store featuring her own
attractive dark artwork. She sells Tshirts, journals, cards, ornaments, and magnets.
- The Hermitage - Illustrator Rima Staines' blog,
full of interesting posts, pictures,
findings, drawings, sketches, and musings. While the things here aren't doomy and spookarific, they're quite lovely in a dreary way, and there's a lot
of whimsy and effort put into the blog. I quite lost myself for half an hour looking around here this afternoon.
- Horror Film History - An interesting project showcasing 32 films (so far) with careful analysis
and selected photos included in each article. The analysis of each film is pretty interesting.
- Hyaena Gallery - An art gallery in Burbank, California which exhibits odd, eclectic, and dark
artwork. Upcoming gallery shows include Clint Carney, Jeff Rebner, and Jeremy Cross. Currently showing: Erick de la Vega. Definitely take time to poke
around this site, you'll likely find a few very interesting things you'll enjoy.
- James B. Hunt - An artist who lives and works in Phoenix. This is his gallery of monsters, odd
creatures, and disturbing faces. (See my favorite here. He is on MySpace, Facebook and
Twitter as well.
- Caia Koopman - Fabulous
art (acrylic on canvas) by a talented artist. Here are wide-eyed girls (I
won't say waifs) and dark overtones, all the while colorfully cheerful. If
I'd seen this site before I selected the Pick of the Month today, this
would have been it. Highly recommended!
- The Oubliette Ensemble - A band from Philadelphia. They play medieval, Renaissance,
dark fairy-tale world music and list themselves on MySpace under "Folk/Classical/Gothic." I just enjoyed listening to their "Enchantment" song.
- The Rock N Goth Shop - A shop with bases in the US, UK and Europe. They sell Alchemy Gothic items
primarily: jewelry, clothing, accessories, decor, barware, etc.
- Sparko - A new webcomic, published by Slave Labor Graphics. You can read it right on
their website. Follow the adventures of Norman and Belle in a strange underground London.
- Tactical Corsets - These come with a pepper spray pouch, handcuff holder, pistol holster, and
other possibilities for attaching survival gear.
- Twilight Conventions - Creation Entertainment's site listing the upcoming
conventions in 2009 and 2010: Atlanta, Chicago, LA, Minneapolis, Miami, Washington DC, Phoenix, Seattle, Vancouver, New Jersey, Nashville, Toronto,
Vancouver (again) and San Francisco. I'm almost afraid to know what exactly goes on at a Twilight convention.
- Universal Monster
Army - Universal Monster Army is an online community dedicated to
classic horror films and the pop culture that surrounds them. There are
forums and classified ads.
- WFKU - An online streaming radio station staffed by NYC dark DJs. "Dead Music for a Dead World." I
absolutely loved listening to this station while I worked on Dark Side of the Net tonight. Their website schedule is terribly outdated though, so that
makes me wonder if anybody is really tending to the station anymore.
